Gabe Bate is a Filipino American scenic/prop designer and miniature model maker known for his hands-on work approach and eclectic designs who uses his life experience around the world to influence his art and uplift groundbreaking and diverse stories. Having lived in different countries his entire upbringing, Gabe puts stories about humanity in underrepresented communities at the forefront of his work. His childhood love of video games and animation as well as his admiration of innovative scenic designers such as Wilson Chin and Clint Ramos reflects in his surreal but intellectual designs that make audiences scratch their heads in intrigue.
Gabe also emphasizes hands-on disciplines as well, having worked in UCLA TFT’s Prop Shop for 3 years and being an avid practitioner of model making. Gabe always delivers some element of a hands-on approach to his designs, whether it is making detailed models of sets for directors or crafting his own props, Gabe appreciates when a designer can put their words into action.
Moving country to country, Gabe always loved meeting new people and carried with him the love for his childhood video games and cartoons. As a designer, he strives to mix all of these elements together to platform diverse stories about the human experience to get people talking.
